“She sank with the loss of 711 officers and enlisted men of the 1,103 aboard. The loss of IJN Sōryū and three other Japanese carriers at Midway was a crucial strategic defeat for Japan and contributed significantly to the Allies' ultimate victory in the Pacific”
Ok so this is the first story
that I have written about an aircraft carrier, and well this is a little bit challenging
to write so…
Yeah let’s get on to the story,
as always I’m going to be showing you the description about IJN
Sōryū.
IJN Sōryū
Armament: 6
× twin 12.7 cm (5 in) dual-purpose
guns
Aircraft carried:
63 (+9 reserve)
21 Mitsubishi A6M Zero
18 Aichi D3A
18 Nakajima B5N
Speed: 34 knots (63 km/h;
39 mph)
Displacement: 19,100 tons
So,
the ship IJN Soryu was a good ship before it you know sunk, and actually Sōryū was one of
two large carriers approved for construction under the Imperial Japanese
Navy's 1931–32 Supplementary Program (the
other being her near- sister Hiryū).
Ok,
being honest here I had never heard about IJN
Soryu and Hiryu at the time I only
knew about IJN Kaga, IJN Akagi, IJN Junyo
and the great IJN Shinano, those
were the only Japanese carriers that I have known (I didn’t know that there
were 2 more).
This end’s the story of IJN Soryu for now.
